Using the Corning pH meter as a voltmeter

1. Turn the instrument to mV mode using the knob.
   
   
2. Clamp the alligator clips to together and turn the instrument on. A reading of 0 mV should register on the screen. If it does not, you have two options:
   • Notify the Prep Lab, and someone will come to adjust the reading to zero mV
   • Use the reading as a base reading. If it is a neagative potential, add the absolute value of this potential to any subsequent readings. If it is positive, subtract this value from any subsequent readings.
     
     
3. To take readings, clamp the alligator clips to the approptiate electrodes and place the electrodes in the solution. Be sure not to let the electrodes touch
